I needed a small "Pocket Radio" for a Senior with both severe vision and mobility issues. The tuning knob and switches would have to be large enough to for them to find by touch and easily move and manipulate with weakened hands. The batteries needed to last a week with several hours of listening a day.I went through several radios from a variety of sources, almost all of them were unusable because of the OFF/FM/AM selector switch being difficult to manipulate. Eventually I found the Retekess V117 which seemed to have what I needed. The OFF is located on the Volume wheel, the tuning knob is easy to manipulate.Comparing the unit against two the most common locally available radios of the the same size ( Sony ICFP27 @.1W RMS & AR/Vital @ .3W RMS). Battery life using Amazon Basic AA's is around 40-50 hours, which is about 60% of the what the Sony IVF would get, and about the same as the Vital. The Retekess is rated at 500mw (.3W RMS), so the battery life makes sense. The audio quality out the Retekess is quite a bit better that most other pocket radios of the same size, it has more bass and a slightly larger speaker. Compared to the Sony it's also quite a bit louder. The Retekess doesn't tune as well the Sony and AR/Vital the other two can catch more stations and are better dealing with stations that are on the fringe. Lastly both the AR/Vital from the Source and the Sony which can be bought anywhere, have a 12 month warranty. the Retekess only has 30 days, and it's also somewhat overpriced considering this.To summarize, the retekess has easy to use controls, better sound, not as good reception, too short of a warranty and should be a bit cheaper when considering the name brand alternatives.
