Description
”Coyote is an important literary voice, blending a keen sense of gay identity and community with a refreshing appreciation for the goodness at the heart of some straight people.”—OutThe first three story collections by Ivan E. Coyote featured insightful, deeply personal tales about gender, identity, and community, based on their own experiences growing up queer in Canada’s North. Ivan’s most recent book, Bow Grip, was their first novel; it was shortlisted for the Ferro-Grumley Prize for Women’s Fiction, was named a Stonewall Honor Book by the American Library Association, and won Canada’s ReLit Award for Best Novel of the Year. With The Slow Fix, Ivan returns to their short story roots in a collection that is disarming, warm, and funny, while it at the same time subverts our preconceived notions of gender roles. Ivan excels at finding the small yet significant truths in our everyday gestures and interactions. By doing so, they help us to embrace not what makes us women or men, but human beings.Ivan E. Coyote is the author of five books, all published by Arsenal Pulp Press. Born in Canada’s Yukon Territory, she lives in Vancouver, BC.

Some people just have a way of revealing themselves to you through the written word, and wow, THAT'S why I read, and THAT'S why I adore this book.If I weren't already fully bonded with the author, her little snippets and take on life are like unrelated little emails from someone I know and like. There's an honesty and a quirkyness that comes through in her writing. She also is just someone who obviously has a personal commitment to being a force of kindness and strength on the planet, and that, too, makes for someone I like to listen to, whose life I naturally want to care about. So I spend the length of the book caring about whether she gets enough good sleep on a cross-country flight, caring about the new appliance recently bought at Home Depot, and definitely caring about her work, her health and her relationship through all the crazy rollercoasters those areas of life wind up being (for her and everyone else). So, I pretty much will read anything this woman writes. Who wouldn't! Score one for the Canadians.
