I grabbed this book after checking it out at the local library and trying a few meals out if it. The recipes use easy to find ingredients, and are easily put together in the morning for a great weeknight meal. Grab this book if you're looking for delicious meals, that can be easily put together in very little time. This book has been a good return on investment.I was a bit worried when going through the beef chapter - all the recipes in that chapter have something like 1/2lb of meat or more per suggested serving. Luckily things turned around when it got to the poultry and fish sections. Deserts in this book are simply amazing!I strongly recommend anyone looking to make better use of their slow cooker check this book out.Cons: All measurements are imperial only. Many recipes call for far more meat than any healthy person should be eating. Alternatives are rarely discussed. Often, the crock pot size (which can be important) is not specified. Many of the poultry measurements are imprecise, "4 chicken breasts," for instance tells nothing of the desired chicken breast size or thickness.Pros: Recipes are high quality and delicious. Cooking times are accurate, and food prep should be followable by almost any cook.Note: In almost all the beef recipes you can substitute red or black beans for some portion of the meat and it will taste fine and be less horrible to eat. The same for chickpeas for game recipies game.Taste of Home cookbooks are always an easy choice because the recipes have "normal" ingredients and they taste great. This slow cooker cookbook is no exception. Just a word to the wise. . . if you have more than one Taste of Home cookbook, a few of the recipes do tend to repeat from one book to the next. Otherwise, well worth the money! This book is a good deal. Most recipes are really good (the appetizer part is the worse one, the rest is pretty good). There are tons of pictures (which I always want) and some good ideas about what to cook with the slow cooker. The meat section is definitely the best part.If this is your first Taste of Home cookbook, than you will like this . However, if you have other Taste of Home cookbooks then all this is is a repeat of all the recipes from the other books. Same recipes and even the same photos...nothing new. This book is getting used on a weekly basis. It is a tasty sampler of recipes. I really have not liked most slow cooker recipe books until I got this one. It puts flavor and generally commonly found ingredients together for an easy to prepare meal that tastes great and smells wonderful. I will be using this book on a regular basis. It has some really good recipes, easy to read and set up in the slow cooker. The cat ruined the first copy. This was the first book of any type that I have ever returned. I had hoped that the recipes would have been more like the food I grew up eating here in NYC. But, unfortunately, the recipes seemed too plain and somewhat boring. Sorry, but I didn't like the book at all.
