Trumpeter Raphe Malik is a skillful improviser, dueting with bassist Larry Roland on one piece; with drummer Dennis Warren on another; performing a pair of quintet pieces with Roland or Jamyll Jones on bass, Warren, and Brian Nelson on the largely extinct C-melody sax, adding tenor saxophonist Glenn Spearman to a lengthy blowout. The music certainly has plenty of fire in spots and holds one's interest throughout.
