So much relevant information for navigating the foundational elements of homeschooling, scattered all over books and social media, come together so cozily in the book. I feel it successfully makes the case that instead of rushing to pack impersonal standards into your homeschool or life, it's worth it to slow down and craft an education and life that aligns with your values. The author transcends curriculum and a specific educational philosophy so the principles of slow can be applied regardless of the resources you use in your home. I wish I’d had this resource when I started homeschooling so I could embrace and enjoy the freedom articulated here sooner.I find the writing organic, straightforward, thoughtful, warm, and relevant. It is unhurried so it can be slow but I found the ideas exciting and they are ideas to mull over.I was also delighted to be learning from a learner. The author shares an abundance of insightful quotes, research, personal experience, and many prompts to paint the inviting picture the joy of slow is while equipping you to chart your own course. It's like a mosaic. The thoughts aren't always tight and linear but they do come together to convey "slow.'If you are looking for a tight definition of “slow” with a sample schedule and link to purchase the curriculum then this ain’t that. You will in every chapter have the ideas to engage that can help you make your right next step. The ideas shared are for the long haul so I know I will be revisiting this book along the homeschool journey and the chapters are well organized for exploring topics as needed. It's very thoughtful and rich with ideas but there are also tools and practical suggestions. The audio version was great to listen to and it would be handy to have the physical copy to reference when dealing with that aspect of life/learning. I've read a few different books about homeschooling and there is a lot of good wisdom out there. This one is really a treasure I'll keep coming back to.
