I have been into physical fitness and the martial arts for more than sixty years and I am always seeking more information on various fitness programs. When I saw this 207 page hardcover book (Power of 10: the once-a-week slow motion fitness revolution by Adam Zickerman and Bill Schley) on Amazon for a bargain price I purchased it. I have tried numerous physical fitness routines (Circuit Training, Aerobics, various weight training programs, Magic Circle exercises, U.S. Navy SEAL workout programs, boxing workout programs, Judo workout programs, Karate workout programs, and many others) over the years and I am always seeking new exercise programs.Even though this book was published in 2003 I surprised that I had never heard of this (Power of 10) fitness program until recently. This text is organized into two parts. The first section (Three pillars workout to change your life) explains the overall principles of this fitness program, which includes exercise, nutrition and rest and recovery. Part two goes into the Power of 10 step-by-step workout program, the use of fitness machines, and the routines and exercises in this total fitness program. This book also has several personal experiences of people who has used this program and obviously love it. What I found fascinating is the unique way the exercises are done and how short a time each program is done and how much rest time is recommended. The key is to do each of the five exercises to failure but only doing about 6 to 8 reps in each exercise. The secret being too SLOWLY raise the weight to a count of 10 up and count of 10 down on each exercise. As someone who is very familiar with various weight training programs when I tried this program I was pleasantly surprised how effective it was in gaining strength and power. My muscles were screaming when I first did this program. After doing this program you muscles will need two to three days to recuperate. Their nutrition program is also very practical and easy to follow. The wonderful book and routine is easy to read and follow and if you are seeking a different kind of fitness book, you should check out this one. I loved it.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Tactical Principles of the most effective combative systems)
