Takayuki Shiraishi's SLOW SHOUTIN' certainly has the slow part down... not too sure about the shoutin', though, as the angular jazzy hip-hop of "Underexposure" winds its way into your ears. "Nightfall," similarly, floats into your ears, before "Movin' Shadow" takes its modal tones on a slow drive. A Western vibe slithers its way onto the loops of "Nowhere" and gentle sweeps drift over “Passing.” A steady beat gives the hazy layers of “The Dark Horizon” more structure, and it helps carry “On a Distant Shore” over the finish line. You can shout about this album, but only slowly.
