Doesn’t have the recipes I’d hoped would be in it that I’ve made from them before, such as the fajitas., ect. Disappointed. As a wife and mom I personally love this book. The recipes are made w readily accessible ingredients and if you tend to cook often, you probably do have most items in your pantry. In reference to those concerned w portion sizes, the use of "processed foods", etc I will say that many recipes do call for say a can of cream of chicken or sour cream etc. However, I do try to cook w an eye towards healthier choices when I can. That being said, I have substituted low sodium, 99% far free products or in some cases cut bck on the more fattening ingredients bc it seemed they werent missed. For example, Crockin Corn Casserole is a favorite recipe of mine but I do tend to cut back on the butter and sour cream by a 1/4 cup or so and use Light sour cream. The recipes are diverse and each one has a color photograph of the prepared dish. I feel this is worth mentioning as I know I can't stand cookbooks w/out pictures. The recipes are kid friendly and designed to take advantage of the slow cooker. They turn out large portions w leftovers, which is exactly what I wanted. If you enjoy slow-cooking but are tired of pot roast and chili and just want an un-complicated cookbook of comfort food recipes, this is awesome! Additionally, the dessert and sides sections are wonderful. Helps you to think of the Crockpot as a versatile kitchen helper w options. I've made probably 10 recipes and I have to say I haven't had one yet disappoint me. Only negative I saw was in the appetizer section there were a few "copycat" dips that were very similar to other included recipes. For example, the difference between dips were 1 ingredient. Overall, great slow cooker resource, colorful, hip, comfort food type of cookbook. Easy to read and use.Wonderful product. It looked brand new and I got it for a bargain. A new one cost a ridiculous amount, but this used one was really good. In fantastic shape.Way too many similar recipes with different names …not too cool for a $40 cookbook…but since I bought it used and found recipes I could combine and replace ingredients to make healthier yet still very tasty meals, I’m happy with my purchase!I was looking through this book at my sister's (she had borrowed it from the library) and saw several recipes that I'd like to try. I made some in my crock pot but they didn't come out so well - it was the crock pot, not the cookbook. My crock cooks way too hot and things were coming out dry.I bought a new crock pot just because of this book and both have made me very happy. The baked ziti and the mac and cheese were both good. Then I made the ultimate pork chops - omg! They were great! London broil, roasts (either whole or shredded), chicken, ribs - all have turned out well. Some of the recipes call for using onion soup mix but I find that can be fairly high is sodium and the finished product can be rather salty. I usually just omit the gravy part of the recipes and that takes care of it.So far I'm quite pleased with the recipes and looking forward to trying a few more. I've filled my freezer twice with foods that I've made from this book and I'll do it again once I run through all of that food in the next couple of months.Recenlty I became a new Mommy again and now that I have 2 less than 1.5yrs apart and working full-time I am busier than ever. I needed something to make my life easier. I decided on pulling out the old crockpot but was stumped for ideas, because, lets face it all crockpot food tastes the same. When I googled reciped I stumbled upon the Crockin girls website and man was I hooked. Then I found out about this cookbook. Let me tell you can't go wrong with it. EVERY recipe has a picture and they all have simple, easy to find ingredients. The lasagna is to die for and so is the chicken tortilla soup.I gave it 4 stars since it does say how many each recipe serves, I just estimate and seem just fine so far. When I made the lasagna I had enough to freeze for another meal (we are a family of 4, 2 kids). This cookbook isn't the healthiest either..lots of cream soups, cream, butter but what do you expect they are from Texas (I believe). Just use common sense when you substitute I change out for low sodium options and reduced fat options. All in all I would recommend this cookbook to anyone and there website is just as good.I love the cookbook. The recipes are great and easy. They even show you how to make bread and desserts in a crockpot. All cookbooks should be written just like this one! The vivid pictures make you want to taste the recipe and the easy to follow instructions make you eager to make the recipe. I should also mention that you don't have to have a chemistry degree to assemble the recipes either. They have a precise, but short list of ingredients and the step by step instructions are fantastic to follow. My inner geek may be showing through, but I LOVE how this book is bound. You can lay it on the counter FLAT and follow the recipe without trying to balance salt & pepper shakers on the pages to attempt to keep the book open to the correct page. Anyone who has tried to follow a recipe out of most books knows exactly what I am talking about here! The first recipe I put to the test was the applesauce recipe which is way easier to construct than the recipe that I used to follow. Tastes great too!I do have one complaint, I just can't seem to make up my mind on which chicken recipe to make for dinner tonight!!!! They all sound so delish!Stumbled across Crockin' Girls on Youtube, and found their website, and loved the recipes. Thought I would try this book, despite misgivings about the high price, but it is excellent value for money. Each recipe is accompanied by a clear photograph, it is hardcover and around 400 pages long. Dislike cooking any other way now. There have been some criticism over the amount of recipes which contain canned soup, however you can always swap these with your own homemade sauces if you prefer, particularly as some soups are unavailable in UK (for example: cheese soup). Folks, if you are fed up with constantly slaving and sweating over a stove each night, a slow cooker and these recipes are the way to go.I ordered this cookbook and was hoping for "fantastic". I will say the photos are fantastic - it's a beautiful book, well laid out and pleasing to the eye. Where it falls down is the actual recipes. There are many variations on the same food dish (breakfast ideas, for example - lots that are very similar with the exception of a single ingredient). The next thing I am disappointed in is the actual recipes. In almost every recipe, they call for prepared sauces, or processed cheeses (like Velveeta!! that's not real cheese!). When I buy a cookbook, I want recipes with "real" ingredients. I want to make delicious meals from scratch, not processed and prepared foods that you just throw together (I'm not discounting those ideas - they have their time and place, but I don't want a whole cookbook full of them). Also, being in Canada, I have a hard time finding many of the sauces mentioned in the book. Based on those two items (not being able to find the processed/prepared foods, and not wanting to actually use them), the book has rendered itself almost useless to me. I will still fiddle with it, and maybe use it as inspiration to come up with my own recipes. For someone who wants to work with real ingredients, I wouldn't recommend this book. For someone who doesn't cook, but wants to start playing with a slow cooker, this is probably a good starter book.
