Outward Hound Fun Feeder, Slo Bowl was recommended to me by my veterinarian for my 7yo Beagle who began to have digestive issues. This maze bowl surely has slowed her down. I wouldn’t say, as they describe, 10x slower, but it’s slowed her eating, but not that much. I purchased the medium with one cup of dog food 1/4 bran flakes. This claims it holds 2 cups. 2 cups of food, I’d say, is pushing it a bit. I do like the edging, which I reflected in my picture, as it makes it easy to pick up & hold onto. Now this is a hard plastic. My dog is 7yo & is no longer a chewer so I have no issue there but I’ve recently gotten a puppy & my puppy will chew on this bowl & has gotten into the plastic pretty good, if it’s left on the floor. I’d say it’s not recommended for puppies for this reason, unless you take it off the floor-my personal experience. It is a non-sliding bowl which I’m happy about. My 4 star reflects what is described & what I feel is inaccurate since using it. I do recommend but know 2 cups of food is pushing it & the slow time is surely not less than 10x.Our 10.5- pound Italian Greyhound loves this feeder & it slows her down from inhaling a meal in 30-seconds (they can be gulpers!) to fun 3-4 minute interactive playtime meals. I was worried the size of the Medium/Mini Orange bowl would be too big, but it's perfect for her and gives enough circular tracks to spread out kibble & to smoosh bits of canned food randomly along the insides (we feed both, but either would work alone, too). Super easy to clean: we did not want to have to buy multiples and try to fit them in the dishwasher, so we just take a soapy sponge and run it around the circular tracks, rinse, and done. Super quick and easy. Other small, toy, miniature and/or "needle nosed" dogs may also like it as long as they are curious types that enjoy dog toys, exploring/hunting, or playing; I think that may be key. Also, we introduced it slowly by trying out just a few kibbles as a treat at first, with lots of praise when she tried licking the kibble around a bit. Took to it quickly. Very, very happy for such a great way to slow her down and give her some fun and mental stimulation at the same time! It's a tiny bowl. I guess this is good for cats? or tiny puppy. I have a 5-month-old corgi puppy. Not sure if it works as a slow feeder so I just switch to the bigger size, which seems to be a bit too big or deep for her. Wish they have in-between sizes. So I was looking up everywhere to find out what a right size slow feeder bowl is. Some articles say that it should be about 4 times of amount for the food. So currently, she is having 1.25 cups a day of dry kibbles divided into 3 (feeding her 3 times a day) So she will need a little less than 2 cup capacity and this is 2 cups. A little big but I thought it was better than the tiny one which is only a 3/4 cup capacity. It kind of fills her bowl up, so slow feeding? probably not. She's trying to get used to the bigger size. So for this one, I might return or keep it for treats like yogurt, chopped fruit, and such. Wish they have a clear indication of what is the proper size for the amount of food we give to our pets and nby their breed or age...I love the sales that OH does on these bowls! I got this one for only $6, which is an absolute steal. I love that there are different "difficulty" options; I had the smaller 1-cup "easy" bowl for my pup when she was younger, but we had to upgrade as she grew. This is the perfect difficulty to slow her down without making her frustrated. She's a golden retriever, so if fed in a normal bowl would inhale that food in well under a minute; Instead this slows her down to maybe 7 minutes for 1.5 cups of food. She does nibble on the bowl every now and then (when she's convinced there should be another 3 cups of food in there instead), but the bowl is pretty sturdy and stands up well to my little land shark.A great buy!For our 13 week old (22 lb) German Shepherd puppy, the "medium" size was a disaster. It was rated for 2 cups of food but one cup was pretty full. He could flip and move it easily with his paw and spill the contents. So we returned it and got the "large standard" size. This one is wonderful, with one cup we fill the inner two circles and shake it to make some fuller contents spill over into the 3rd circle (none get into the 4th circle). He cannot flip it and it doesn't move much due to its greater weight and good lower rubber rim. He walks around it continuoursly to eat from different sides instead of using his paw to move the food to his mouth. We move the water dish away because he will walk into it feriously focused in the food pursuit. It takes about 5-6 minutes, where a std dish takes maybe a minute. We found out that after much effort, he can't get about 7-10 kibble pieces remaining, so we just turn it over to spill them onto the floor. So this size large is great for 3/4 C food (3x per day) and when we add more, it will be ever better. So it is not necessary to use all the circles unless the quantity needs it. We use the reg open food bowl for fruit pieces etc.My pawrents gave this bowl 5 stars but I do not approve. I like fast food.. and by that I mean I like to eat my food fast. Super fast. A few days ago mom said, “Let’s go get the mail, Maverick!” and I was so excited because she knows how much I love our walks down the driveway to the mailbox. Well folks, she tricked me. This bowl was in the mailbox and ever since it arrived my SET (speedy eating time) has suffered tremendously. Before this dumb bowl arrived I had my SET down to 14.2 seconds per cup. NOW……. my SET is sitting at an embarrassing 13 minutes. MINUTES!!!There’s no hope left for me but maybe this review will help other pups avoid the same terrible fate. I am a puppy Rhodesian Ridgeback. My mum and dad bought this for me as I eat really quick and then burped and farted in their faces. They put my biscuits in it and it’s good fun chasing the biscuits around. But I can’t eat my din dins in 10 seconds any more. It takes me about 5 minutes now and that means that mum and dad don’t have to suffer my wind and I like my biscuits better. I have tried turning it over with my big paws but that doesn’t work. Mum and dad like the bowl as it is easy to clean and it keeps me happy. This item appears to be a cheap clone. There are no "Outward Hound" markings on the base or on the side, and no patent number, all present on a genuine Outward Hound fun feeder i already have. The plastic is inferior, lightweight and the rubbery non slip section all round the base is also missing on both the ones i have received from Amazon so they slide all over the place. I sent the first one back because of the missing non slip bit. got sent a replacement just the same but with 4 little bits of rubber for me to stick on feet! I then looked at it more closely and noticed the other differences. The plastic looks like it would splinter if a dog picked it up and dropped it. The one I bought elsewhere is tough, dishwasher safe (again markings on the bottom not present on these two) and has a nice chunky solid feel to it.Definitely one to buy elsewhere and make sure you get the genuine article.
