This has, after 1 week of owning and using it, turned out to be an EXCELLENT purchase. I bought this to use outside in my garden. I already have a Roberts re-chargeable radio that I use outside, but was looking for one that had the ability to play my own music files from either a USB-stick or SD-card, and this little beauty does BOTH!. Also it was important to have DAB/+ capability, with the FM very handy for our local stations too. Anyway, the main and VERY important thing to remember/realize with this radio is that you MUST plug it in and let it charge for about 30mins or more before you try to turn it on and set it up. The 'manual' says charge for about 3-5 hrs - not necessary to get started. However, as stated in the teeny-tiny print of the 'manual' it must be charged before first use. If you don't charge it first (30mins is plenty) the ROXEL splash-screen will show for a second or two, even perhaps starting to search for stations for a few more seconds, before simply going black as turned-off. This made me think something was wrong with mine as at that 1st attempt I was under the (wrong) impression that it would simply work fine (as it was 'plugged in with the mains cord) whilst it started to charge it's internal battery, as is the case with just about any radio I've ever used.....BUT - A BIG BUT, not a bad-but, but a but nevertheless... It must be charged a bit first. It seems to me that when the mains cord is plugged in the internal battery will indeed charge as expected (there's even a tiny red-LED below the socket for the cable into the radio back that first is red while charging, and will turn green when fully-charged - handy but easily missed...).The thing to realize is that it charges the battery, as expected, but the radio itself ONLY WORKS FROM THE BUILT-IN BATTERY'S POWER, NOT FROM THE MAINS-POWER IN, THAT ONLY CHARGES THE BATTERY BUT DOESN'T SUPPLY THE RADIO DIRECTLY WITH POWER.Once I realized this, the apparent faulty-radio that wouldn't work when I first plugged it into the mains became absolutely perfect! The listed-on-Amazon description definitely gives the impression that:1)-The radio works as soon as it's plugged in - not-true - see above...2)-The radio can be powered and work from the mains power - also not true - also see above. The above two points don't make this radio bad in any way, but they must be understood to be as I've written above, and NOT AS DESCRIBED IN THE LISTING, WHICH IS WRONG..... (lost in translation perhaps?..)So, plugging a USB card into the back and selecting USB-mode via the 'M' button and the arrow-keys started playback of my files from the USB-stick. The radio isn't able to move through folder-hierarchies etc that are normally use for music etc, but can only move forward or backwards serially, one track at a time. This in itself isn't a problem unless I suppose you use a USB stick with 100's or 1000's of file on, but another aspect that needs to be understood lurks..... Not a problem, but must also be realized and understood to avoid again thinking this great little device is rubbish - it's NOT, it's GREAT.After a bit of experimentation It became clear that when moving through tracks (on the USB-stick) one-at-a-time that it steps through whatever files are at the root of the USB first, then as it encounters a folder it simply steps into the folder and starts from track 01 in that folder, leaves the folder after the last track therein and continues on in the same manner through the other folders on the USB-stick.Again, once this behaviour is understood the rest is easy - it even plays .FLAC format files!I'd strongly advise that ONLY music-files are included on any USB-stick used, not the album-graphic-files or any other file-types often accompanying digital music files that play and show these images etc on for example a laptop or dedicated .mps player with a screen etc....I haven't tried the SD-card playback yet so can't comment on that function. The sound of this radio is superb, easily as good as my Roberts-Duo rechargeable radio that doesn't play external media music files. It's also plenty loud enough without distortion, for me anyway...The battery seems to last forever also - the screen is colourful, clear and bright (brightness is alterable) - the screen will timeout (configurable time also - I use 45seconds for mine) and dim right down after turning-onto full set brightness if you for example press a button or turn the lovely smooth volume dial.I really do LOVE this little radio - it is very versatile, very good quality (obviously it's plastic an superb for the price) with very nice light and positive buttons and a really nice large, rubberized volume dial.My advice - BUY ONE - it seems to me that most of the bad-points other have mentioned are from a lack of actually taking the time to explore this radio's functions and how to use it to it's full capability.SO - charge it for 15-30mins at least before trying to set it up and use it, and take the time to learn how it works, and you'll (like me) LOVE THIS excellent, value-for-money radio.
