Description
Review ...Slow Horse contains five raw and ripping representations of everything you could ever imagine from a wild Saturday night. Produced by Dave Ivory, the record retains that special and organic set of components that comes from a seasoned production guru. Ivory is an avid fan that knows music can continue to be what it was back in the golden age of the 1970s, and this latest record is the proof of that forecast. Best known for his work with Patti LaBelle, The Roots, Bo Diddley and Molly Hatchet, Ivory is an influential navigator on Slow Horse... --John Pfeiffer - The Aquarian (Asbury Park, NJ)If you like your rock a little on the fried side... Southern fried side, that is, then the new EP from Stolen Rhodes might just be what you are looking for. Keeps Us Alive starts off a bit slow, but give a little time and it warms up like a car engine on a freezing winter morning. The vocals, guitars, and rhythm section all blend well to create a cool tempo d rocker. Gone shows a bit more of the influences within the bands members, but this is not your typical Southern fried rock. This track has some quirks and sounds that come from below the Mason-Dixon line, but the attitude is all hard rock. 50 Miles To Richmond is the token ballad-like track on the disc that shows a more introspective and softer side of the band without getting too mushy or straying too far from the path the band is forging for itself. Down In Flames goes back to the Southern sound and style of Gone, but without the harder edge. The drums and bass anchor the track while the vocals carry the chorus. The bonus is the different guitar solos and riffs peppered throughout the track. Life Was Never Finer has a fun groove and vibe that wraps the bands attitude into a cool rocker that demonstrates another facet of the bands ability, demonstrates heir diversity, and keeps them from being pigeonholed to any one genre. --Todd Jolicoeur - 100% Rock Magazine (Australia)Gone is a great example of their total command in one track as they dish it all out for your pleasure. They are solid in the vocal department and musically sound. If you dig rock, country or classic southern rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd or Molly Hatchet...give this band a spin because this is rock candy! --Rate The Tracks - RateTheTracks.comIf you like your rock a little on the fried side... These dudes melted my face recently, but my girlfriend left me for the band. Last I heard she got the band name tattooed on her sternum and was into "the Eiffel Tower" which is strange considering we're nowhere near France. Anyway, 5 stars for the music but 1 star for moral compass.
