One of mine is really very fast. Another works best if everything is heated before it's put into the crock.But what I really use this for is her directions for baking bread. Since I don't have an oven, use slow cookers for three quarters of my cooking, I'm tickled pink.If you remember to put a towel under the lid, you can even get a pretty fair crust.I would, however, recommend that you let your dough sit in the cooker for a little bit (fifteen minutes seems to be plenty) and then turn it on low. Gives the bread plenty of time to rise.
