We needed a new toilet seat in our bathroom and since we have a child that is potty-training age, I decided to go with one that has a built-in seat. This particular seat and lid (not the removable child seat) is painted wood. In my opinion, wood seats have a better "feel" to them, and they have the added benefit of being more durable than plastic seats. Next time you're at the local home center, take a look at the toilet seat display. Run your finger nail across the lid of a plastic seat, and you'll see that it leaves a mark. Now try this on a wood seat. No mark. To me, it's troublesome that just a finger nail can mar the finish of a plastic seat.Installation of the seat went as planned. It's quite easy. Removing the old seat actually took more time than installing the new one. The bolts included snap off at the correct tension, so there is no rick of over-tightening and cracking the toilet. After installation, i was unable to install the child seat. The are where the seat mounts was too wide to fit between the hinges. I called the 800 number for Bemis/Church and was able to reach someone in customer service at 5:30pm on a Friday, who deduced the wrong child seat was included in the box. While the rep did not necessarily apologize for the error, she did say she would immediately ship out a new child seat. As promised, the new, correct seat arrived during the middle of the next week. The seat works well, is fairly attractive (as far as toilet seats go), and is comfortable. My only complaint (besides the mix-up during packaging) is the child seat defaults to being stuck, magnetically, to the lid. So, each time my toddler needs to use the toilet, the lid must be raised, and then the child seat lowered. And while the lid and adult seat are "no-slam / soft close", the child seat lacks this feature.Overall, the seat is great, I would recommend it to other parents of toddlers, and I would purchase it again if necessary. If the child seat didn't need to be lowered each time the lid was raised and/or if the child seat was also soft-close, then I would give the product 5 stars instead of 4.
