though many will argue that this is not as solid as the afermentioned "sometimes that's all we have", well it isn't. but the high points on this album rival the peaks (and many are to be found) on "sometimes".i guess the difference would be overall atmosphere, where all of "sometimes" is wrapped in a beautiful blanket of reverb (which sadly wasn't/isn't always the case, as heard on "85-91"), why and when they took this course change is unknown, but deeply appreciated.the problem i have with "pop" music is too many times, the music is great, production superb, but the sound is so clean and "flat" that it sounds like there was an effort to use as little, or no, effects.which is sad to say the least, maybe it's a subconcious effort to not sound too "out there", but let's face it, the world is full of bands using less effects than vice-versa. note: IT WOULD DO THE POP/POWER POP/UNDERGROUND POP world a "world" of difference to use reverb/slight effects, on instruments (and especially on backing vocals, which badfinger did to great effect, heard on straight up, and some of no dice). this gives the music more atmosphere, and doesn't just sound like people plugging in directly to the sound boards.anyhoo, this cd is great, some tracks may be skipped over, but the ones to be enjoyed follow, and evolve, perfectly from where "sometimes" left off.p.s.-purchase the hollow men's-cresta, and you will see what i mean by perfectly placed effects for maximum atmosphere, different genre, but pop none-the-less.
