Description
Product description Keb' Mo' ~ Slow Down Amazon.com Guitarist and vocalist Keb' Mo' seems to be continuing in the direction suggested by his previous album, Just Like You, with this release. That is to say, mixed in with the country-blues style that dominated his self-titled debut are elements of soul, R&B, and rock (the opening "Muddy Water" sounds, in Keb' Mo's hands, a great deal like the Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk Woman"). When this works, as it does on Slow Down's title track, it works very, very well. Some of the ballads, though, sound a little bland, and when the album returns to the tight, rock-inflected "Soon As I Get Paid" or the funky "A Letter to Tracy," it's refreshing. The real treats, however, come late in the album. With "Love in Vain" and "God Trying to Get Your Attention," Mo' gets down to the roots, and the sheer simplicity of the closing "I'm Telling You Now" is nothing short of beautiful, allowing Mo's considerable talent as a singer and guitarist to shine through. --Genevieve Williams Review Keb' Mo' succeeds on Slow Down because he is able to blend traditional acoustic blues with pop sensibilities. Both vocally and instrumentally he owes much to the groundbreaking work of Taj Mahal, although Mo's lyrics are often more introspective. -- Living Blues See more

I have and love Keb's first two albums and play them often. Great blues by a fine writer. The icing on the cake of Keb's albums is the super sound quality. Very natural and intimate. This album is different. Not recording wise as the sound quality is first rate. This is more of what I would call an R&B release. It is very much an ensemble effort as opposed to his first two releases which were, for the most part, just him doin' his thing. "Slow Down" is very tuneful and fun. The title is tongue-in-cheek as this is a faster paced effort than his earlier offerings. It comes off not quite as "deep" as his first two albums which were performed in a more classic blues style. This guy is a real talent and very smart. His songs all have genuine meaning in them and are cleverly worded to convey his messages. He also plays great blues guitar. Never overdoes it to prove that he's a virtuoso, just enough to complement his songs and the feelings he is conveying.
