Description
While approaching their sixth full-length album, Slow Death, Carnifex possessed a distinct vision. The San Diego metal quintet-Scott Lewis [lead vocals], Shawn Cameron [drums], Cory Arford [rhythm guitar, backing vocals], Fred Calderon [bass], and Jordan Lockrey [lead guitar]-would build on the expansiveness of 2014's critically acclaimed Die Without Hope as they brought a definitive darkness to the fold. "We wanted to take the next step," affirms Scott. "On the last album, we started utilizing orchestration and additional programming in terms of classical and electronic sounds. We elevated that to a new level here. That's why there's a dark vibe that runs through the whole album. It adds a layer of atmosphere that gives you a different feeling."

Arguably one of the best metal releases of 2016 "Slow Death" is a dark, dreary black metal influenced sound of terrifying horror that has been masterfully put together by the minds of the 5 piece Death Metal veteran band out of my home town San Diego, California, known only as Carnifex. Their darkest and heaviest album to date (IMO) is sure to haunt you with terrifying vocals, epic solos, devastating break downs, morbid lyrics, groovy riffs and amazing drumming. Carnifex has officially done something that I have yet to see from a Death core band, Incorporate black metal influence into their music. They did it so well that I hope they continue to incorporate even more black metal influence for future releases, They have dropped 2 videos since the release for the singles "Drown me in blood" and "Slow Death". One is full of blood and brutality and the other is a live performance put on for local metal heads in the area, both of which are very epic videos on YouTube. I think Carnifex has officially established their name and sound in today's scene. I personally enjoy both black metal and death core. So this album does nothing but deliver the best combination of the two in a clean crisp well put together atmosphere. Nothing on this album sounds rushed at all. For those of you that enjoyed their last album Die Without Hope, this is the perfect sequel to that album just like the front man Scott Lewis wanted it to be. Even if you don't like death core but you like black metal I recommend atleast giving this album a listen (I'm sure it's on YouTube) I can almost promise you won't be disappointed (then again you can't make everyone happy) but if you do enjoy it enough to where you're actually banging your head then I suggest you buy this album in support of this bands talent. It would be a worthy add on to your metal collection. This album will drag you into the darkness that it brings to your ears. I patiently await the day these dudes tour around my neck of the woods. This is a true masterpiece put together by a truly epic band.
