This album sounds like the lead-in to "Bloody Kisses". It's much more raw, the guitar work is more speed metal oriented when it comes to guitar solos, Peter Steele growls and yells more than he sings, and at times there's even a hardcore punk feeling in certain songs.Still, the elements that you associate the band with are still found here; it's just that the tone of the album puts those elements in the backseat more. Which isn't a bad thing because Pete Steele pours all the anger, sadness, hate, and confusion he has into this album. I think this is the most vulnerable Type O Negative album they ever released. "Bloody Kisses" turned the lyrics into metaphors more whereas this album's lyrics are like an open journal.Every song on this is about a girl that Pete dated for almost 10 years who had been unfaithful to him and it crushed him so much that he made this (being bi-polar didn't help his emotional stability). This album is unique in that it's telling a story without metaphors and pouring out gut-wrenching true tales and thoughts.Anyway, if you're a fan of the band, you should definitely get it.If you're new to the band, start with "October Rust" or "Bloody Kisses".
