Jumbo's Killcrane are definatly a heavy band. They sludge their way through these songs, while the singer rips loose a vitrolic scream. This is a downtuned ultra-heavy cd, where only from time to time does the band get faster than a Sabbath like gallop and crawl. Their song structures are interesting. The first full song "The Slow Decay" speeds up and then goes into a very Alice in Chains kind of riffing section.Rather than really sounding like alot of the other stoner/sludge bands or doomy death metal bands, Jumbo's Kilcrane takes an interesting approach. They sometimes sound like death metal, sometimes like ultra sludgey metal, and other times like the kind of grungey alternative metal bands from ten years ago like the aforementioned Alice in Chains. The promo says that every song resounds "with defeat and victory, decay and rebirth and demonstrate the bone-crushing power of Jumbo's Killcrane. Nothing on here resounds that powerfully with me, except the bone-crushing part, as that is exactly what this record is; bone-crushingly heavy. This is definatly a bone-crushing album, and if you enjoy that you couldn't do too much better than Jumbo's Killcrane.
